Himachal Pradesh is traditionally known for its natural beauty and tourism based economy. However the dynamics of the state is changing and technology based economy is evolving. Favorable government policies and creation of SEZ’s is driving more students to purse higher studies in technical arena. More students are opting for MCA courses in Himachal Pradesh.

Entrance Exam:

Admission to MCA is strictly based on the performance of the students in the entrance test. Himachal Pradesh University, the premier university conducts its own HPMCAT (Himachal Pradesh MCA Test). The dates of the exam and information regarding forms are published in leading news papers and also on the university website. There are only two institutes offering  MCA courses. Chitkara Institute of Technology and L R Institute of Management offer MCA courses in the state. Competition is very intense as seats are very limited. Students can als0o apply for part time MCA from Himachal Pradesh University. Part time MCA is for a duration of three years.

Eligibility:

Students are required to have a bachelors degree in B Sc IT, B Sc (CS), BE (CS), BE (IT) and BCA from any of the recognized university in India. Students in their final semester of the graduation can also apply. However such students have to furnish the proof of finishing their graduation within a period of six months from the commencement of the course. For part time MCA, students should have atleast two years of experience in field of IT.

Preparation:

Students are tested on English, Mathematics, Science and Computers. More emphasis is placed on knowledge of mathematics and computers. Study materials are available with leading bookstores and can also be purchased online.
