Diploma in Optometry
Optometry, as the name suggest, means study of eye. ‘Opto’ means ‘eye related’ or ‘optical’ and ‘Metry’ means ‘study of’. However the real meaning of optometry is the study of eye and eye related issues such as vision, eye structure etc.
Under the course of Diploma in optometry, one has to study the various things about the eyes. This includes the principle of its functioning and its various parts and their usage. Also the course includes the study of various structures of the eye along with the eye itself. The vision and the factors that affect vision are also studied under this course. The course also includes study of the various kinds of disease that happens in the eyes and the methods of treating them.
In order to be eligible for this course, one will have to be 10 + 2 passed in science stream. The 10 + 2 or its equivalent should be done from a recognized and approved educational board.
Course outlook:
The Diploma in Optometry course is a 3 years course. The 3 years are further divided in to 3 parts of 1 year each. After every year, an examination is held that decides the promotion of the candidates in the next year.
Job prospects:
One can be absorbed easily in various optical enterprises and various hospitals dealing in optics and eye care. Even various eye wear companies’ recruits’ these degree holders.
