The Institute was established in the year 2008 as per the MHRD, in along with rest of other eight new IIT’s established in the same year. This was particularly tampered as a historic event for the state as the people as well as the state government were demanding for an IIT from a very long period of time. The Institute offers both UG as well as PG based courses and commence its academic session from the month of August on every New Year of the academic year.

Infrastructure and Campus:

The Overall campus area of this IIT is about a massive 935 acres or 3.78 square kilometers. The Institute is located in the city of the capital city of the state of Orissa, Bhuvaneshwar. It also offers a Marine Campus, a particular area of the department dedicated for different researches based on the Marine subject. The institute also has an elite team of 48 teachers in the highly qualified teaching staff.

Courses Offered:

The College offer Bachelor level degree in the Engineering course. The streams are Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. An integrated five year B.Tech-M.Tech degree is soon to be offered by the Institute. It also plans to offer Ph.D level degree in the near future.

Admission Procedure:

The candidates appear for an Entrance test called IIT-JEE, and those of them who surpass the minimum cut-off marks are then called for the final counseling. These candidates are then have to choose seats for themselves as per the particular ranks they have achieved in comparison to the availability of the seats in the Institute as per the rank level.

Placements:

Various high grade companies such as Google, Wipro, HCL Technologies, Hindalco, Reliane are known to recruit candidates from the Institute.
