Central University of Orissa is one among the 15 new central universities established by the Indian Government. This central university was established for increasing access to higher education of good quality for the people in less educational developed districts of the state of Orissa. The university is proposed to be set up in the Koraput District of the state of Orissa and it is presently functioning from a temporary building. The Korapur District in which the university campus is going to be established is an underdeveloped region of the state and most of the people here belong to SC and ST categories. Since there is no university or other national level institution in this area, the central university of Orissa is going to be established in this region.

Central University of Orissa is offering education through different schools like school of social sciences, school of languages, basic and information sciences, development studies, education & education technology, health science, biodiversity & conservation of natural resources, school of laws and School of management studies. Different centres are functioning under each of these schools to offer the best quality education to the students. The list of courses offered by the university is at present shorter and the same is given below:

School of Languages:

• PG Course in English

• PG Course in Oriya

School of Social Sciences:

• PG Course in Anthropology & Tribal Studies

• PG Course in Sociology

School of Basic Sciences:

• PG Course in Economics

School of Developmental Studies:

• PG Course in Economics

School of Education Technology:

• PG Course in Journalism & Mass Communication

Candidates will be selected to these courses based on their performance in the All India level examination. Out of the total number of seats available for each course, 27% is reserved for OBC candidates belonging to non-creamy layer, 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST and 3% for Physically challenged candidates are also reserved. Candidates fulfilling the eligibility requirement of UG course completion in appropriate discipline are eligible to appear for the entrance examination conducted by the university for admission of students to the PG courses offered.
