NID/National Institute of Designs offers professional education programmes at Under Graduate and Post Graduate level with 5 faculty streams and 16 diverse design domains.

It offers Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) of four years duration for students after 10+2, or equivalent like AISSCE/ IB/ ICSE, and the Post-Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (PGDPD) of 2 to 2 ½ years duration for graduates; particularly from architecture, technology, engineering, fine and applied arts, information technology, computer science, etc.

Admission Procedure Details:

It is on the basis of the marks scored in the written entrance test and ofcourse the previous academic qualifications also matters. The short-listed candidates are called to attend the studio tests and personal interview.

Pattern of NID entrance exam:

It comprises of three design aptitude tests with a total of 60 points to assess the aptitudes, perception and motivation of the aspirants and so it includes memory drawing, thematic color arrangement, composition, animation, knowledge of proportions and perspective, visual design and abstract symbolism.

Eligibility for NID entrance exam:

For Under-Graduate Programme: Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2), or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ICSE etc. Candidates passing the Institute’s admission tests/interviews will be admitted, subject to passing their qualifying examinations before they join the Institute. Competence in technical and related subjects will normally be considered an advantage. Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on June 1.

For Post-Graduate Programme: Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent including those who will be appearing for the qualifying examinations during the academic year in the areas mentioned against each discipline are eligible to apply. Upper age limit for candidates is 30 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on June 1.
