The University of Rajasthan is the most ancient name or the oldest one center of advanced and higher education in the Rajasthan state. The date at which this landmark came into existence was on January 8th, 1947. This university was earlier name to be the University of Rajputana and was so established to dissipate the methods of pure learning and looking after the spreading of knowledge in the best of the possible ways. In the earlier decade or so, the university enjoyed its affiliating jurisdiction to be in the entire state but with the establishments of further new universities in the area by UGC, the affiliating reign has been curbed and thus got limited. However the university is still one of the oldest ones and covers the entire state in its knowledge imparting reign.

Talking about the constituents that make up the entire university and with whose efforts the university has reached such a commendable level. The university stands tall on its 36 post graduate departments, the 6 constituent colleges, 15 recognized research centers and finally around 500 affiliated colleges that have been located in and around the entire state among the different districts.

The university has been spread on the campus which holds the area of around 285.50 acres and along with all the activities well being implemented in this huge patch of land which has been acting as the university headquarters the campus also possesses a sister satellite campus attached to the headquarters consisting of the colleges of the university in the area of 149.53 acres.

The departments that have been the pillars of this great university are so concluded under the fields of Microbiology, Biotechnology, Information Technology, Journalism & mass communication, Finance Control, Management. The under graduate fields of the university include Computer applications, Business Administration, Fine Arts, Film Production & Technology and finally Food Technology.

Together this institution has been the jewel when it comes to education in Rajasthan.
