The Karnataka State Women University was formed in the year 2003 in the month of August and it is only university in the state of Karnataka meant exclusive for the education of women. The university is contributed to motivate excellence through leadership qualities, personality development, collaboration & integration, innovation, creativity, research and academic achievements.

The important concentration of the university is empowerment of women through higher education and training. The university is located in the district of Bijapur and almost all the women colleges in the northern districts of the state are coming under the jurisdiction of this university.

Karnataka State Women University is offering under-graduation and post-graduation degree courses under the faculties of arts, social science, science & technology, education and commerce & management. In addition to these courses, the university is also offering Ph. D and M. Phil courses as well.

The campus of the university is located at two areas, one is called the city campus and another campus is called Torvi campus. The central library of this university is divided into two with each one in these two campuses. These two divisions of the library has collection of more than 45000 books and more than 7000 e-journals.

The goals of the university include bridging of gender gap, to help for the upliftment of women from backward and rural areas and to motivate women to play a constructive and effective role in the society.
