District Statistical Officer - How to become a District Statistical Officer?
The District Statistical office has the responsibility of accumulation and co-ordination of all statistical information in the district level. The collection of data which is included in the statistical information is recorded with the help of various other major departments like Agriculture, Price Statistics, etc.
A District Statistical Officer’s job is to manage all these duties. He/She has to collect, assemble and publish the statistical information that is related to the economy of the concerned district. Based on this information many planning and development projects are undertaken in the District level.
Qualifying Exam
Candidates who wish to become an officer in this field should satisfy some educational qualifications. They must have a minimum qualification of post graduation in Economics or Statistics or Mathematics. It should be obtained from any reputed universities. Also they should have attained training and possess certificate of All India Trades Tests in Surveyors Trade.
Who is eligible to apply?
Candidates should be an Indian citizen. Also they must be a domicile of the district where they wish to work. They should possess good academic scores in higher secondary examination or equivalent from any reputed boards. These candidates can then join for undergraduate course in related subject. Post graduation in the same is also compulsory for the post.
Key points in the process
- Study 12th with Mathematics or statistics as one of the compulsory subjects and score good marks in these subjects.
- Pursue undergraduate degree in Economics/ Mathematics/ Statistics and also post graduation in the same.
- Attend training programmes organized by NCVT or any Survey Training Institution under the State government and obtain the certificate on its successful completion.
- Search in employment newspapers or any other dailies for the examination which recruits candidates for this post and apply for it.
Skills required for a District Statistical Officer
District Statistical Officers’ should possess some excellent skills and talent to perform well in the field. They must have a strong hand in Statistics or Mathematics. Another important thing is that they must be fluent in the regional languages of the district where they work. Also that language should be a compulsory subject in their high school examinations. They need good characters and a responsible mind. They must be physically fit in all aspects.
