National Entrance Examination for Design (NID NEED) Eligibility Criteria
The National Entrance Examination for Design (NID NEED) is carried out by the National Institute of Design. This exam is very much important for students who wish to pursue a career in design. The admission of students into the National Institute of Design as well as other institutions is done as per the score obtained by the students. Students who are shortlisted after the written exam are required to appear for the studio tests as well as the personal interview. More details about the exam are stated below.
The Post Graduate Diploma Program in Design (PGDPD) is a course that has duration of 4-years. This program is offered to students who have taken any one of the following 3 faculty streams.

- Ceramic & Glass Design
- Furniture and Interior Design
- Product Design
- Communication Design:
- Animation Film Design
- Exhibition Design Textile and
- Film & Video Communication
- Graphic Design
- Apparel Design:
- Textile Design
Qualifying Examinations for NID NEED
The qualifying exam for the National Entrance Examination for Design (NID NEED) is the Higher Secondary Exam (10+2). It will be advantageous for candidates if they have good skills in technical and subjects that pertain to it. Applicants can also apply for provisional admission if they have appeared for their class 12 exam.
Age Qualification for NID NEED
Students who desire to apply for the National Institute of Design National Entrance Examination For Design (NID NEED) must be above 20 years of age when they apply. Candidates of the reserved categories have an age relaxation of up to 3 years. More details will be available in the information brochure.
Who can apply for NID NEED?
Applicants who are Indian nationals can apply for the National Institute of Design National Entrance Examination For Design (NID NEED). Foreign nationalities who fulfill all the eligibility criteria can also submit the admission form for the exam.
Eligibility for the Foreign Nationals/NRI/PIO for NID NEED
Candidates of foreign nationality must possess a pass in the senior secondary exam. Students of Indian origin who are staying overseas must have studied the 5 years course. This must include 10+1 and 10+2 abroad. Applicants can send the admission forms to the address mentioned in the prospectus. Out of the total number of seats available, 10 percent seats will be kept aside for students of foreign origin.
Scholarships offered by National Institute of Design (NID)
The National Institute of Design provides students from underprivileged families with scholarships. Besides this, tuition fees are waivered partially and fully for meritorious students.
