In India, there are few universities that are good as Cochin University of Science and Technology when it comes to delivering quality education. This university, for the past many years have kept up its name and has risen to the place in the best universities in the country. The University offers various courses including B.Tech. The university offers B.Tech Information Technology. The students of Information Technology, during the 4th semester of the course have to study data structure and algorithms. As far as IT students are concerned, this is a very important paper.
Tips about the question paper
This subject is all about the structures of data and the various algorithms that are used to perform various functions on the databases. This is a subject that is totally based on computers. But this subject does not contain programming aspects.
The paper is purely descriptive. There are no objective questions. There are no sections in the paper and there are 10 questions in all. The candidates have to answer 5 questions after reading the instructions carefully. Each question consists of two sub questions. There are no numerical problems in the paper. There are no diagrammatic questions in the paper. All the questions are essay type and there are no short answer type questions.
Allotted time and total marks
The duration of the paper is 3 hours and the candidates have to answer all the questions within this time. Before the exam begins, the candidates will be allotted 15 minutes reading time.
The paper is for a total of 100 marks. A score of 35% is required to pass the exam. Each question carry 20 marks and each sub question carries 10 marks. Marks will be penalized if all the sub questions within a question are not answered together.
Scoring high
The best way to score is to master all the areas as per the syllabus and then make use of previous year question papers. Referring to previous year questions will help you understand the paper pattern well. Referring to ‘Data structure and Algorithms in Java’ by Michael Waite will do a lot of good.
