The stream of IT is considered a derivative branch of CS with main involvement of information management using computers and/or existing software/hardware. This subject of IT deals in providing new ways of looking at the information and effective methods to gather information for system analysis and design.

What is taught in this paper?

This paper covers the application of software engineering techniques in the information system life cycle. Various software design and analysis tools like prototyping, data modeling, information gathering for defining system requirements, entity-relationship diagrams, data dictionaries etc. Design and prototyping of inputs/outputs, data structures, program modules, and documentation are also encompassed. It also includes feasibility study in terms of cost, duration and technology.

How many Groups are in the paper?

The paper is divided into three main groups viz. Group A, B and C.

What are the variations in the paper?

The first group of the paper comprises of 10 to 15 questions out of which 10 are to be answered. These are MCQs of 1 mark each totaling to 10. Group B has varying number of questions of 5 marks each but only 3 are to be attempted. In usual, it consists of 5 questions. Group C hold questions of 15 marks each wherein each question can be further subdivided into variable marks questions. It commonly contains one short note types questions with choices.

How are marks distributed?

The maximum obtainable score of the paper is 70 with marks distribution as 10 marks for Group A, 10 MCQs of 1 mark each. Group B is allotted 15 marks with 3 questions of 5 marks each. The rest 45 marks are assigned to Group C with 3 questions of 15 marks each.

How much time is allotted for the paper?

The paper is allotted time duration of 3 hours i.e. 180 minutes.
