School of Legal Studies came into existence in the year 1962 and it is actually one of the oldest departments of the Cochin University of Science & Technology. Initially, this institution was formed as a part of the University of Kerala and was offering research programme and PG course in Law. Later in the year 1971, it became a constituent unit of Cochin University.

Courses offered:

School of Legal Studies offer Post Graduate Law Courses in different field of law inclusive of industry-friendly and traditional laws. It also runs specialized electives for UG law course. The list of courses offered by the school is as follows:

Five-year integrated Bachelor of Business Administration – Bachelor of Law

LL. M

Ph. D in law

Eligibility requirement:

Integrated five-year course:

For seeking admission to the five-year integrated BBA-LL. B course offered by the School of Legal Studies, candidates must have completed their higher secondary with not less than 60% of marks in the case of candidates belonging to science and commerce stream. In the case of candidates with higher secondary in humanities/arts stream, they should have secured not less than 55% of marks. In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category, they should have secured 40% of marks irrespective of their discipline in the higher secondary level.

Age requirement:

The age requirement in the case of general category candidates is that they should not have crossed 20 years of age on 1st of July, which is 22 years in the case of SC/ST and OBC candidates.

LL. M:

For seeking admission to this PG course in Law, candidates must have undergone the prescribed core course of study in the school of legal studies for not less than two academic years.

Ph. D:

For Ph. D in law course offered by School of Legal Studies, candidates must have completed their Master’s degree from a recognized university with not less than 55% or a CGPA of 6.0 in the 10-point scale.

Admission Procedure:

Admissions to both UG and PG courses offered by School of Legal Studies are made based on the performance of the students in the Common Admission Test conducted by the Cochin University of Science & Technology followed in GD and interview. For seeking admission to the Ph. D course, candidates will have to take up Departmental Admission Test.

Placement:

To keep the students informed about the opportunities prevailing in the legal sector, a Human Resource Division is functioning in the school that offers guidance to the students in finding job placements.
