Ministry of Health & Family Welfare of Government of India is entrusted with the duty of taking care of the health policy of the country and the ministry is taking care of all government programs pertaining to family planning in the country. The ministry includes three departments under its purview and they are:

• Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH)

• Department of Family Welfare

• Department of Health

The ministry offers employment opportunities through the various autonomous bodies, educational institutions and research organizations working under each of the above-mentioned departments. Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH):

This department deals with the alternative medicine like siddha, homeopathy, ayurveda and unani in India. The Indian Medicine Pharmaceutical Corporation Limited is a Public Sector undertaking functioning under this department and apart from this PSU, several other research centres and educational institutions like Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy, Central Council for Research in Homeopathy, Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga are also functioning under the department.

Department of Family Welfare:

This department is responsible for aspects pertaining to family welfare particularly in maternal health, pediatric health, reproductive health and rural health services. Several research institutions like Indian Council of Medical Research, Central Drug Research Institute, International Institute of Population Science, etc… are functioning under this department.

Department of Health:

This department deals with health care, which includes public health, preventive medicine, immunization campaigns and awareness campaigns. Several autonomous bodies like Indian Nursing Council, Medical Council of India, Pharmacy Council of India, Dental Council of India, National Aids Control Organization, Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation Limited and 13 National Health Programmes are running under this department.
