Tamenglong District is one among the nine districts in the state of Manipur and it is located in the North eastern part of the nation. According to the survey conducted in the year 2011, it is the least populous district in the state of Manipur. The district is bounded by the state of Assam and Imphal West district of Manipur in the West, by the Churchandpur district of Manipur in the South, by Senapti District to the east and north and by the state of Nagaland in the north side. In the year 2006, the district was named as one of the most backward districts of the country by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and therefore the district is one among the three districts in the state receiving grants from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme.

The district is divided into four sub-divisions namely Nungba, Tousem, Tamei and Tamenglong. The district has a population of 1,40,143 according to the census conducted in the year 2011. Therefore, it earns 607th rank among the total 640 districts in the nation and the population density of the district is 32 inhabitants per square kilomteres. The literacy rate of the district is 70.4%. Tamenglong College is affiliated to the Manipur University and the college offers arts, science and commerce courses at the UG level. Admission of students to the courses offered by the Tamenglong college is done on the basis of the marks secured by the candidates in the higher secondary examination. To seek admission to the arts, science and commerce courses, candidates must have completed their higher secondary examination in appropriate discipline.

Even though, there is a single college for higher education in the district of Tamenglong, there are 157 primary schools, 68 middle schools and 15 senior/senior secondary schools in the district offering the best quality school education thereby acting as a strong foundation for higher studies to the students belonging to the district of Tamenglong. Students belonging to the other districts are also benefitted from the education offered by the schools and college located in Tamenglong District, which is one of the backward districts in the nation.
