Cosmologist – How to become a cosmologist?
Cosmologists are the scientists who study about the astronomical principles that govern the heavenly bodies like stars, planets, comets, meteors, galaxies and natural satellites. They also study about the universe and its evolution. They use various scientific equipments like radio telescope for their research about heavenly bodies. They also use particle accelerators and scientific laboratories for conducting experiments on various theories related to universe. Cosmologists can specialize in various fields related to astronomy according to their interest and skill. They usually work at major observatories or research institutions.
Qualifying exam
Candidates who want to pursue their career as cosmologists should obtain either Bachelor’s degree in Physics/Mathematics with honors or Bachelor of Technology degree in Astronomy. They should then obtain Master’s degree in any subject related to astronomy. Those who have completed Master’s degree should pursue the concerned research program in any research institute. They can go for either M.S program or PhD program in the field related to astronomy.
Who are eligible to apply?
Candidates who want to pursue any astronomy course should pass plus two with the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Such candidates can apply for the entrance exam conducted for the admission to Bachelor’s degree course. For pursuing any Master’s degree course, one should complete their bachelor’s degree course and qualify the concerned entrance exam. Several research institutes are conducting M.S. and Ph.D program in the field related to astronomy. These institutes conduct entrance exams for the intake of candidates to any of the research program. Candidates who are applying for this entrance exam should complete their Master’s degree in the related field.
