Sangrur District is located in the Indian state of Punjab in the North-western part of the nation and the district has four cities namely Sunam, Sangur, Melerkota and Dhuri. According to the census conducted in the year 2011, the district of Sangrur had a population of more than 16 lakh people and it has a sex ratio of 883 females for each 1000 males. The literacy rate of the district is 68.9%. Sangrur District is bounded by the Ftehbad district of the state of Hyderabad to the south, Patiala district in the east, Baranala district to the west and Ludhiana District to the North.

Educational institutions in Sangrur District:

The district of Sangrur has seven ITIs, an ETT Institution, two engineering, technology and architecture colleges and three arts, science and commerce colleges. There are 28 vocational schools, 189 elementary schools, 173 high schools and 100 senior secondary schools in the district. Primary, secondary and collegiate education is managed by three separate directorates at the state of Punjab and likewise the district of Sangrur also has three different heads for these three levels of education. Government College, Malerkota:

This college came into existence in the year 1926 and the college is meant for offering arts, science and commerce courses and these courses are offered by the college at the UG level with affiliation from the Punjabi University.

Government College, Munak:

This college is also offering arts, science and commerce education at the UG level with affiliation from the Punjabi University.

Government Ranbir College:

Government Ranbir College came into existence in the year 1939 and the college is also meant for offering arts, science and commerce education.
