Campus Placement Procedure in IBM

IBM is one of the market leaders in computer hardware and system integration. Final year engineering degree holders with 70% marks are usually considered for campus placement in IBM. Selection of eligible candidates is carried out on the basis of their performance in Aptitude Test, Summary Writing Test, GD, and Interview.

Eligibility Criteria

Usually engineering graduates who are in the final year of their studies are considered for campus placement. Such candidates must be pursing their studies in streams of Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication/Communication, Information Technology, etc. Master of Science graduates in CS/IT/Electronics (or related subjects) and Master of Computer Application (MCA) holders are also eligible. Eligible candidate must not have any backlogs and must have 70% marks throughout the course.

Selection Procedure

Latest selection procedure followed by IBM comprises of 4 main stages.

  • Online Aptitude Test
  • English Summary Writing Test
  • Group Discussion
  • Technical cum HR Interview

Online Aptitude Test

There will be two sections for online aptitude test. Each section includes 20 questions. First section consists of questions related to number series. Second section is meant to evaluate the technical knowledge of the candidate. One can expect questions related to computer software and hardware aspects in this section. Total time allotted for completion is 90 minutes.

Candidate must be careful while answering as there is negative marking of ¼ for every wrong answer. More over a cut off time is there for answering each question. Candidate can have 2 minute 15 sec for each question along with a break of 30 sec if needed. Once they attempt a particular question, it is not possible to return back.

English Summary Writing Test

Those candidates who have cleared aptitude test will be short listed for second section. In this section, 2-3 passages in English language will be given. Candidates are asked to write summary for these passages in required formats. Sentence structuring and its formation are crucial to clear the section.

Group Discussion

Aspirants who can pass the summary writing test will be short listed for Group Discussion. In this section, the team is provided with some general topics. Candidates need to express their ideas and opinion related to the topic given. Communication skills and general awareness of the candidate are basically checked in this process.

Technical cum HR Interview

The final round comprises technical and HR interview rounds. In the technical section candidates are asked questions related to software programming, database management, operating systems, microprocessors, etc. Personal details of the candidate such as family background, hobbies, etc are generally evaluated in HR interview.
