Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad organizes placement process in two different stages – Lateral process and Sectoral Process. Students with work experience are usually considered for lateral process placement. On the other hand, sectoral placement enables students to apply for jobs in companies based on their choice of sectors. IIM conducts several training activities to improve skills of students in areas like entrepreneurship, communication, group discussion, interview and presentation skills. Placement Process for PGPM in IIM, Ahmedabad

Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad organizes a specific placement process to provide guidance for students to get placed in top companies related to their field of specialization. The placement process in IIM for PGPM course is conducted in two main stages which is as follows –

Stage 1 – Laterals Process

Students with work experience can take place in this stage of placement process. A minimum of 50% students from each batch can take part in this stage of placement process. Students are provided an opportunity to leverage work experience in this stage and different firms from specific sectors like pharmaceuticals, technology, analytics and consulting often take part in the placement process.   

Stage 2 – Sectoral Process

This second stage of placement process involves grouping of different firms in to specific cohorts depending on the specific profile offered. The firms are invited in to the campus in specific groups. This stage of placement enables students to apply for jobs in companies based on their choice of sectors like banks, financial institutions, consulting firms, sales and marketing companies etc.

Training Activities organized in IIM

The placement department functioning in IIM is the specific authority which is responsible for coordinating all major placement activities for students. The placement department takes initiative in introducing several training activities to enhance the skills of students which is as follows –

  • Personality Development programs are organized to improve student’s skills in core areas such as general aptitude, group discussion, personal interviews, presentation skills, communication and language skills.
  • Mock Interview sessions are arranged.
  • Domain based training activities are arranged.
  • The institute also arranges entrepreneurship based training activities for those students who are interested to start their career as an entrepreneur. As part of this entrepreneur ship program, the institute offers the special opportunity to students to take part in the placement process organized by IIM in to the next two years provided their entrepreneurship venture does not attain success or worked out correctly.
