Physical education implies a course or training, which can impart development and training for the human body. So, Bachelor of Physical Education or B.P.Ed. is an academic degree awarded in the field of Physical education. It is also known as B.P.E degree. This course is supervised by All India Council of Physical education, which has been constituted by the Indian parliament, to look after physical education courses in India.
Eligibility criteria for Physical education course 3/4 year course
- Candidate must have passed 10+2 from a recognized school or board of India.
- Candidate must be more than 17 years of age.
Duration of physical education course
The B.P.Ed course is of 3-4 years duration or 1 year duration.
Admission tests for physical education course
Physical fitness test: This test comprises of many different activities. It includes shuttle run (30ft X 4), Standing Broad jump, 600 –yard run, 50-yard dash or Flexed –leg-sit-up for one minute. Those candidates, who secure less than 50%, shall not be eligible for more tests.
Academic Test: This test is basically a test of General knowledge and English. Candidates who secure less than 40% are not eligible for more tests.
Game/sport playing ability: The candidate must secure at least 50% marks in this test. Every candidate is given a sport /game of his/her choice for examination. These games must be included in I.O.A. or association of Indian universities, sports division.
B.P.Ed -1 year course
- In order to qualify for this course, a candidate must be a graduate with minimum 50% marks with an active participation in sports.
- The maximum age of the candidate must have not crossed 25 years.
- There is a written test for admission to this course.
- Men and women are both eligible for admission, although married women are not allowed in most institutions or colleges.
The syllabus consists of practice teaching in schools/ colleges.
