Assam Engineering College was formed in the year 1955 and it is affiliated to Gauhati University. The college holds the pride of being the first undergraduate engineering in the northeastern part of India. Initially, the college started only with one discipline of engineering being Civil Engineering. However, as years went by the college introduced other departments gradually. The college is acting as the hub centre of many extra-curricular and intellectual activities for more than half a century now.
Courses offered:
The college is offering under-graduation in engineering in different branches like electrical, mechanical, computer science, instrumentation, civil, industrial & production, chemical and electronics & Tele-communication engineering. In addition to the under graduation courses in these disciplines of engineering, the college also offers Ph. D in Chemical Engineering and civil engineering. The college also offers M.E. in civil and electrical engineering. Of the branches of engineering, industrial & production engineering, instrumentation engineering and computer science & engineering are approved by AICTE. The computer application department of the college offers MCA course.
Admission procedure:
Admission to UG courses is made based on the Common Entrance Examination conducted by the state. In the case of PG courses, the candidate should have completed B.E/B. Tech in the respective discipline. In the case of doctoral course, candidate with master’s degree in corresponding course is admitted. For MCA course, admission is made through state level entrance examination.
Training & placement cell:
A training & placement cell is functioning under the college and the main job of this cell is to interact with industries and organizations to organize campus recruitment in Assam Engineering College. Every year, top-rated multinational companies are visiting the college for recruiting talents. Some of these companies are Ashok Leyland, Reliance Telecom, Tata Indicom, Infosys, CTS, TVS, etc…
