Cochin University, B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, 3rd Sem., Mechanics of Solid (ME 304) Papers
Mechanical engineering students of Cochin University of Science and Technology during the 3rd semester of the course have to study mechanics of solids and have to undergo an examination of this subject. As far as mechanical engineers are concerned, this is a subject deserving a lot of importance.
Paper pattern
The paper does not contain any sections. The question paper has ten questions. The candidates have to attempt all the ten questions. Each question is divided into two or more sub questions. The paper is totally descriptive and the questions are mainly based on physics of solids and elasticity. Diagrams are important and all question papers of Mechanics of solids of CUSAT will carry at least two questions in which diagram will be given in the question paper and the candidate has to answer the question after making observations from the diagram. Numerical problems are found in all the questions and hence emphasize should be given to numerical when preparing for the exam.
Marking scheme
The question paper consists of ten questions and all of them have to be attempted. Each question carries 20 marks. So, the total mark of the exam is 100. The marks of the sub questions vary and are not distributed equally. The marks vary depending on the question.
Duration of the paper
The candidates are allotted three hours for the completion of the paper. Before the commencement of the exam, the candidates are allotted 15 minutes for reading the question paper.
About the subject
The subject ‘Mechanics of solids’ are based on physics topics like elasticity and its applications. It is a subject which gives prime importance to numerical and has to be practiced consistently. Referring to previous question papers will be helpful in cracking the exam.
