Although Dermatology and Venereology are medical sub specialties, the area of study and the employment opportunities in both these fields differ a lot. Dermatology deals with study of the various skin conditions and the ailments that affect the external parts of human body like skin, scalp, nails and hair. On the other hand, Venereology is concerned with the study of the sexually transmitted diseases in human beings.

Dermatology is an enormous branch of internal medicine that has many sub divisions. While studying the Dermatology courses, aspirants can specialize in Pediatric dermatology, Immunodermatology and so on. Teledermatology and Mohs surgery are other subspecialties of Dermatology. Graduates in Medical Sciences can pursue the MD or DO program in Dermatology so as to become a Dermatologist. Those who are interested in carrying out research and development in Dermatology have to pursue the doctoral programs in the relevant fields.

Venereology Courses and Career Opportunities

In order to become a Venereologist, individuals have to pursue the MD program in Venereology and the residency-training program thereafter. They should also pass the medical Certification tests to work as a licensed Venereologist. Aspirants have to complete the MBBS course from a recognized medical school so as to apply for postgraduate studies. In their daily affairs, Venereologists provide treatments to patients suffering from ailments that include bacterial and fungal infections like syphilis, genital scabies, gonorrhea, Human Immumo Virus infection and so on. These physicians mostly work in Government and private health care departments, medical centers, pharmaceutical companies, medical laboratories and so on.

Key differentiators between Dermatology and Venereology

Dermatologists are skin specialists who treat various skin diseases whereas Venereologists are practitioners who analyze and provide treatment to sexually transmitted diseases.

Only those who have studied the Dermatology specialization programs can become Dermatologists whereas Venereologitsts are medical physicians who have specialized in Venereology.

Both Dermatologists and Venereologists work co-operatively to create a physically able-bodied society by applying their technical proficiency and the up-to-date advancements in technology.
