Doctor of Medicine is a 3 year post graduate degree in the domain of medicine commonly known as MD. The course is considered as the practical orientation of the MBBS program with research basis. A candidate who successfully completes the MD degree is called a specialist in the particular field of study. In India the Medical Council of India (MCI) controls and monitors the MD course. A large number of medical schools and institutions across the country offer this course to the aspirants.

Eligibility Criteria for MD program

Only those candidates holding the MBBS degree from a reputed medical college approved by MCI are eligible for the MD program. The candidates should have a clear understanding in the different non surgical areas of Medicine like, Radiology, Internal Medicine, pathology etc. Only those candidates who have fulfilled or who are in the final stage of the internship after the MBBS program are eligible to apply for the MD program.

Admission Procedure for MD program

The admission process is based on the entrance examination conducted at national or university level. Some institute conducts their own common entrance test for the post graduate program in medicine. The qualified candidates of these written examinations are short listed for the final interview round and counseling process for the purpose of admission.

How to fill in MD Entrance Application form?

Candidates can register through online or by offline mode to apply for entrance examination. It depends upon the entrance examination. While filling the online form or the OMR sheet the candidates need to be focused and should avoid committing mistakes. They should fill the form correctly and only valid information should be provided in the application form. As compared to the MBBS the seats available for the MD program is less and hence any minute mistakes in the application procedure will disqualify your application for examination. Along with the suggested documents the candidates should submit the form to the examination body before the final date.

MD Entrance Exam Pattern

The examination structure is different for different entrance examination. Usually the exam follows the objective type with multiple answers of 3 hours duration. There are exams which consist of subjective and practical examinations. The question paper may carry around 200-300 questions which are more on the application side of the theoretical aspects in MBBS.

MD course curriculum

MD Course Evaluation

The course evaluation is done mainly by the yearly examination, both by the theoretical as well as the clinical examination. The remuneration of the MD holder will depend on many factors though there are no doubts that they command high salary in the country and abroad. The increasing number of hospitals has given rise to an increase in the demand for MD qualified doctors and they are paying high salaries to attract these specialists.
