Dr. M.G.R. Janaki College of arts and science was established in the year 1996 by Mrs.Janaki Ramachandran, who desired to start a college for women in memory of her husband Dr.M.G.Ramachandran who served as Chief Minister of Tamilnadu for many years. The college is affiliated to University of Madras. The mission of this institution was to meet the educational needs of women and to make them aware of the various issues which arise in the society and train them suitably to confront them skillfully. Apart from offering arts and science disciplines, the college also offers job oriented courses which are in highest demand in the market.

Admission & Eligibility

The eligibility for joining Bachelor degree course is a pass in higher secondary examination. Students from other state should obtain an eligibility certificate from the University of Madras. On submission of the application form to the college, provisionally selected students will be called for an interview at the college. The admission stands confirmed after the interview has been completed successfully.

Facilities

The college is located in the heart of Chennai city with excellent infrastructure. The college holds an auditorium which can accommodate 800 persons, a big theatre which is centrally air-conditioned, furnished and airy class rooms, and other amenities. The college library has a huge collection of around 10,000 books and other journals. The college also offers hostel facilities for outstation students.
