I am in Diploma, studying Food Processing Technology. After completing my 12th in Science I have taken admission in Diploma in course. So, can I take admission in B.E./B.Tech 2nd year through Lateral Entry in Mechanical branch in Assam Engineering College, Guwahati, Assam, or in NIT, Silchar, Assam.

For admission in B.E Mechanical engineering through lateral entry you need a diploma engineering in the same stream. Food processing technology will not make you eligible for lateral entry admission.

You can only get admission in first year B.E on the basis of class 12th qualification through exams like JEE Main or any state level engineering entrance exam.

To take admission in B.Tech Mechanical Engineering as a lateral entry candidate, you must have completed Diploma Engineering in that field only, then you will be eligible for it. Otherwise, if you have pursued some other diploma course, you will not be eligible to opt B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering. You can opt Mechanical Engineering on the basis of class 12th qualification after qualifying in the respective entrance examinations. For that you have to study from the 1st year of the course.
