It is a very good decision indeed to become an IAS officer. With Medical background there is no compulsion for you to take only Medical science optional in your Mains Exam. But if you have good knowledge in your core field then don't take a chance ,opt for Medical science optional subject for your mains exam. as you have mentioned that you are going to appear for IAS exam in the year 2012 you basically need to concentrate on first round of UPSC CSE i.e., CSAT (Civils Service Aptitude Test) So optional subject topic will then come into picture after clearing your first round(CSAT) as you have less time to prepare for CSAT get prepared as early as possible.and attempt well. As for IAS mains exam you have the following list of optional subjects. >>Agriculture >>Management >>Animal Husbandry & Vetinary Science >>Mathematics >>Anthropology >>Mechanical Engineering >>Botany >>Medical Science >>Chemistry >>Philosophy >>Civil Engineering >>Physics >>Commerce & Accountancy >>Political Science & International Relations >>Economics >>Psychology >>Electrical Engineering >>Public Administration >>Geography >>Sociology >>Geology >>Statistics >>Indian History >>Zoology >>Law There are few optionals for you in the above list like Medical Science,Botany, Chemistry etc.,, you can select a related subject or your interested optional subjects. and appear in Mains exam. I know a coaching center of Delhi which offers coaching for medical subject. its name is IAS Study Circle it will be near Virat Bhawan(MTNL Bldg.),Dr.Mukherjee Ngr,Nr Batra Cinema Once go there and find out whether they are still providing coaching for medical subjects of UPSC or not. Lets hope for the best. Make a selection in your desired service Regards |
