hii friend there are many ways of going into the designing field you are doing your mechanical so you must be having graphics designing machine desgin classes to learn more advanced you can go for cad centre courses now its been going advance with new level softwares auto cad ,pro e and etc so if you have much knowledge on designing sure you can get jobs related to it..............

Design Aptitude Test for PGDPD (at all centres)

Yes definitely the designing course from National Institute of Design will help you a lot in your future career.
As being a mechanical engineer you have to draw machine designs and all that then you will need the knowledge of CAD or computer aided software design tools.
