Actually as a matter of fact Electronics and Instrumentation is one of the Core Branches according me. Unfortunately in India people know only about Electronics and Communication engineering ,very few are aware of instrumentation. It is basically a branch which deals with instruments which in most cases use application of electronic circuits and fundamentals.

In reality it is instrumentation is forms a basic backbone for many of the process industries. Yes, consider an example of a company like Pepsico, where suppose there is automated process setup. It is handled by instrumentation engineers.Like that there is a wide scope or range where an electronics and instrumentation engineer can work. For this Purpose instrumentation can be subdivided into groups like Bio-medical instrumentation, nuclear instrumentation, power instrumentation, control and automation and many more.
For instance you may select your area of interest in Bio-medical instrumentation, you will be designing electronics circuits for machinery like CT/MRI scanners , ECG's and so on different healthcare equipment.
The most important fact that has to be realised here is that companies manufacturing these instruments need people with expertise. That is deep knowledge on each aspect is needed.
And if we speak of companies which offer jobs for bio-medical instrumentation engineers are like

The sad part especially in India is that many of the electronics engineers both communication and instrumentation right after completing B-tech land up into IT-software companies. It is very few number who go for higher studies and i guarntee you it is those few people who will be 1000x more successful than those landing in simple IT jobs.

Earning Degree from Top notch collages like IIT's and NIT's in this branch and continuing studies to higher level will fetch a much happier and better life.Not that other collages students are incapable but if you continue your studies to higher level it shall be very helpful.
All you need is patience and vigour to study electronics being the one of the most toughest and challenging subjects.
