Re: Which degree is essential for me to study IAS?
Hi,
You already know everything..so what are you waiting for?? You can do any graduation course from any recognized university. IAS is an exam that makes you to enter into the competative world and make you to get the top posts such as DC and DSP and ACP so on.. You can take any course as your graduation course. Because to become an IAS you should have completed your graduation first in any stream from any recognized university....that is the only educational criteria....then take a look at the following things. 1. Your age should be between 21 years and 30 years....the age is calculated on the basis of 1st of August of the year applying for it. [33 years for SC/ST] 2. Should be a citizen of India. You should have good knowledge in current affairs and social issues. [Because you need to have very strong in that] So if you fulfill the above conditions, you can easily crack IAS exam. official website-- http://www.upsc.gov.in Only graduates and final year students are eligible for IAS. But if selected, then final years students have to show their certificate of passing at the time of interview. |

Re: Which degree is essential for me to study IAS?
Dear aspirant,
-You should be graduate in any discipline from a recognised university. -You should study graduation in a subject which is interesting for you and you can spend many hours studying that subject very easily. -So it is upto you to select your graduation subject. -IAS syllabus is very vast so you have to study for long period of time to pass the IAS exams. -There will be descriptive type paper also so you should have deep knowledge of the subject you are choosing as optional. -Most of the people take optional subject from what they have studied in graduation . So graduation discipline plays a role in your success or failure in IAS exam. -So you must choose the subject of your interest. BEST OF LUCK... |

Re: Which degree is essential for me to study IAS?
The answer is very simple. You should choose degree in which you would like to make career in case you fail to make the cut for Indian Administrative Service. A very important fact about IAS is that out of over 5 to 7 Lakh students that appear for the exam, only 200 to 300 end up being selected for IAS.
Rest either reappear for the exam next year or decide to find job or study further as per their choice. Now it is important that you complete graduation in a stream which sounds interesting to you and could help you achieve you goal in case you don't make the mark for IAs. For example if you are also interested in Computers then take BCA as graduation course. So in the case of failing to make the cut you can pursue Master of Computer Applications and then apply for the job in IT Sector. Similarly if you completed 10+2 with PCM then Engineering is also a great option. After completing the four year course you can apply for IAS and even on failing you are assured of good future. This is how you should select the stream for graduation. Since there is so much competition in the Civil Service Examination, you should also keep the second option and complete graduation according to it. IAS Eligibility 1. Only Indian citizens can apply including NRIs. 2. A graduation degree in any stream is required. 3. Final year students can also apply for IAS Exam. Age Limit 1. The age limit for General candidates is 21 to 30 years. 2. OBC are eligible for 3 years relaxation. 3. While SC/ST get 5 years relaxation in upper age limit. Exam Pattern 1. Preliminary Exam 2. Main Exam 3. Interview The examination starts with preliminary exam which is qualifying exams to appear for Mains. This exam is conducted in May with only 2 papers. However in Main Examination there are 9 papers and you are also required to select 2 optional subjects. |

Re: Which degree is essential for me to study IAS?
IAS Examination is most popular, highly competive and nationwide examination. Every year atleast 5-6 lakh candidates appeared in the examination but only handful candidates get selected. Actually, all bachelor degrees are considered eligible for joining IAS Examination. You are advised to opt only that bachelor degree in which you have sound knowledge, elementary knowledge, keen interest, job prospects etc. Keeping all pros and cons in mind I am suggesting you that opt only those graduation degree in which you can make livelihood in the event of failure in the IAS Examination. You should have to think about alternative way to make career in other field in case you failed.
