M.S(master of Science) and M.tech(Master of Technology) are two different courses totally. The basic difference includes the pattern i.e M.Tech includes more of theoretical knowledge and M.S includes more of practical knowledge.M.tech is a course where the student has to go through the theoretical classes daily in the first year and project work in the second year where the student has to attend with a period of gap.M.S includes less of classes and more of project so everything depends upon the students hard work.
M.Tech has well split itself into theoretical and practical part in two years but M.S involves more of practical knowledge where in the student should learn the theoretical part all by himself.M.Tech should be completed with in 2 years but M.S course can be completed only if the student completes the entire project and has no doubt regarding his/her project including the theoretical part. |

hi,
The basic difference between the two courses is the study orientation and pattern. The M.Tech course is a more detailed course with a lot of study in it. Under the M.Tech degree, one has to attend regular classes in order to gain knowledge about the subject. The subject under M.Tech is studied in detail in classes. This is probably because a lot of things in theoretical aspect are to be studied for which classroom course is essential. The project under this course is completed simultaneously along with the classes. On the other hand the M.S course requires least attendance of the classes. The course basically deals with the practical knowledge and self study about the subject and the project. The students interact with the professors and attend those classes which are essential. They devote more time to their project under the degree of M.S. |

M.tech: theory+project(2 years)
MS : Theory + Research work+ thesis(3 years) from the above the point M.Tech and MS is summarized. now details: M.tech is completely a theory based course where you just study as B.Tech. but the fact is here everything is more elaborated. In your last year you go for a project. It is a syllabus oriented course. project part is the vital part in M.Tech. MS on the other hand will not bound you to any syllabus. You are going to read specific topics and then you write your thesis paper. You do mainly research work under someone's guidance. The path to do Phd is all set when you go for MS.Generally students those are going for MS tends to do Phd in future and go for academic jobs and continue research along side. In the view of companies(most number of Indian companies): They prefer students those are doing M.Tech. Now is respect to USA: There is no M.Tech only MS. MS is divided in two ways one is project based and the other one is research based. So that how they maintain both kind of students(students those are going to do research and student those are not interested doing research). In india, chances to do MS is very much limited. |

M.tech
1.M.tech is a two years course. 2.You have to qualify GATE for M.tech. 3.It is the higher degree of BE/B.Tech . 4.No other university in the world got recruitment status like IITs and top NITs . 5.It is not a research oriented course. 6.To get IITs you have to score 99% anr for NITs at least 90% in GATE . MS 1.It is a research oriented course . 2.One can't be syre about the duration of the course, may take 2 to 4 years to complete . 3.To MS abroad you have to get in to top 100 University in the world. For that you need good GRE 1400. Thank you |
