hi! I am also pursuing B.tech in metallurgy. As far as the scope is concerned it depends upon your approach and interest. If you wish to go for some higher study and also, wish to become involved in some kind of research then metallurgy is a very good option. But if at all your aim is to get a job and earn soon after completing your B.tech, then it is better, for a girl, to opt for some other branch like IT, CS, Elex, Civil or Electrical because after graduation companies usually pick guys for management trainee level, as they usually offer field work in very harsh environments, and according to most of companies(core), such environments are not suitable for girls.
as far as nature of course is concerned it is very interesting, specially the rapidly progressing material science, which is usually taught with metallurgy.

helo sir, i have opted metalllurgy branch,in giet gunupur,india, orissa,being a good metallurgist ,what are the projects & research aspects in future,,,that means in 2014,,,,,,
