Eligibility for IPS entrance exams: -

1. Bachelor’s degree in any subject or in any engineering stream or equivqlent from a recognised institute / university.

2. Age - 21 Years to 30 Years for General candidates, 21 Years to 33 Years

to become IPS officer you have to appear in civil service examination. the notification for civil service examination 2011 preliminary examination is published and form fill up is going on.


you should have minimum of graduation degree from any discipline to apply for civil service examination. also your age must be in between 21 to 30 for general category candidate for civil service examination. there are relaxation in upper age limit for reserved candidate. here i am attaching the notification for the civil service examination. go through the attachment for other eligibility criterion and syllabus and pattern of the examination.

IPS exam is conducted by UPSC. There are some criteria you have to follow for appearing in IPS exam.

Those candidate have completed graduation in any discipline from recognized university are eligible for IPS exam.

But your age should be in between 21-30years for general candidate.

In IPS exam their is provide age relaxation for OBC candidate is 3years and for SC/ST candidate is 5 years.

The maximum attempts for Sc/ST candidate is Unlimited. For OBC candidate it is 7 years and for general candidate it will be 5 years.

Also you must be citizen of India.

Civil Services Examination is the most prestigious examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission for recruitment to various All India Services including I.A.S., I.P.S., I.F.S.,I.R.S., and various Group A Services and Group B Services.

Normally applications are invited by UPSC notifications in leading News Papers during December every year.

The Civil Services Examination consists of three stages :

1. Civil Services Preliminary Examination ( Objective Type) (Usually conducted in May)
2. Civil Services Main Examination (Written) (Conducted during October/November)
3. Interview and final Selection (During April/May)


1. Minimum Educational Qualification :
