You want to become a IAS/IPS officer, for serve the nation, I appreciate it.
In order to become a IAS /IPS officer, there is a examination , commonly known as CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION, This examination is conducted by the UNION PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION (UPSC).
IAS stands for INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE & IPS stands for INDIAN POLICE SERVICE.

The minimum educational requirement for being eligible for this examination is a graduation, no matter what ever the stream is..., but from a recognized college.

The age limit for appear in this examination is 21-30 years,...

Eligibility Criteria for IAS and IPS examination:

Nationality:

For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.

Educational Qualification:

The Candidates must hold a degree of any universities incorporated by an act of the central or state government of India.

OR

Other Educational Institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act,1956.or possess an equivalent qualification.

Age limit: 21 years must be completed on which notification of the year, which a candidate is appearing. Maximum 30 for general category, 33 for OBCs and 35 for SCs/STs. Ex-servicemen will get 5 more years exemption from the prescribed age limit.

Number of Attempts: Four attempts for open, seven for OBCs and no limit for SCs/STs. If a person appears in the Preliminary Examination or even one paper is counted as an attempt.

Selection Process :

It is based on three phases the following are:

For Indian Administrative Service as well as for Indian Police Service, Union Public Service Commission conducts a common examination known as Civil Service Examination.
To be eligible for the Civil Service Examination, one needs to hold a bachelors degree awarded by a recognized university.

A graduate in any discipline, regardless of the marks obtained in the qualifying examination, may write Civil Service Examination provided he/she is within the age limit of 21-30 years.
The maximum age limit is, however, relaxed upto 3 years for candidates belonging to OBC category and 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST category.
As far as the format of the examination is concerned, it comprise of the following stages:

Preliminary Examination

Main Examination

Interview


Qualifying each stage is mandatory to move on to the next level and after successful
completion of all the stages, candidates are selected for the aforementioned services.

IAS stands for Indian Administrative Services officer and become a part of the Indian Administrative Service. It will be part of the Govt. You can work from “the inside” and change “the system”.

IPS stands for Indian Police Services officer and become a part of indian police department.

To get into the IAS, you will have to give the “UPSC held Civil Services Examination”. It is a common exam for getting into the IAS and IPS .
