Sir,
I have done BE in mechanical from Nagpur University. Now I want to take one year brake for GATE preparation by joining GATE coaching classes.
So, is it fine to take a year gap for coaching classes ? (since there are some companies which don't want any gap between education).
Also tell me some name of some GATE coaching classes in India.

Please reply urgently.

No, its not necessary that a one year Gap is must while preparing for GATE.It all depends upon the capacity of the student that how much HE is capable to do the preparation.And about the companies,the companies preferred only the skill & knowledge of the candidate regarding HIS qualification Gap.
To take a one year gap for preparation of GATE exam is a good decision as you can get a good score if pays your full attention for the preparation of this exam.

Clearing GATE paper is an uphill task but if you clear with a great All India Rank, one year gap will not affect your career, because clearing gate paper requires a sound technical knowledge which is the foremost thing needed from you by the recruiter

during campus interviews i've seen that some companies ask for students with no gap in studies

I have done my B.E in information science.
I would like to take GATE.
Pls suggest me the appropriate books to study.

I am targetting for good score for Gate 2013, max 2014.
I am working for a company.
So, will taking of coaching classes be advisable or self study is a good option.

I want to drop one year after the completion of my btech for gate preparation. Is it a right decision .

Hello dear , yes you are right there are a few companies which have some norms regarding 2 year gap, they do not recruit people with a two or more year gap. Most of the student try not to make a two year gap in between the studies , i would recommend that to you too, try not to make a take a gap for you M.Tech but even if for some or the other reason you are compelled to take a two year gap then dont lose hope as not many companies have these kind of norms and you can always apply to the other companies. And if you take a year gap then try to mentain a good score in M.Tech it will give you an edge over other students with a single or no year gap which will make you even.

If you sincerely believe that you can crack the GATE exam by taking one year practice you can take it as there will no restriction for that.

Most of the government jobs these days ask for a qualified GATE score in order to apply for the jobs.

Also if you are interested in M.Tech you can get the admission if you have a valid GATE score.

there is no truth in it that companies do not hire students with gaps in study..
all the look for is skills annd knowledge.. if you do take that break then you will prepare yourself better to take GATE head on plus company will see your level of intelligence which will most probably be much improved one over what you were one year before..
so dont hesitate friend.. go for it.. score the best you can.. some institutes which can help you in this are..

To cracking the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE Exam) opens the ways to opportunities in higher education. Things to know to Crack GATE 2013

Pre-final year students ie third year students are not be eligible for GATE 2013. “But this should not affect preparation of pre-final year students who plan to appear for GATE when eligible, as it is always better to start early and revise towards the end. Out of the 21 optional in GATE, only one can be taken in a particular year. There is no restriction on which optional you can take in GATE. But, candidates wishing to attempt an optional not related to their qualifying degree, must check the admission rules of the institutes of interest carefully,”.

If you have confidence in yourself that you can cope up with the coaching and working hours and give your complete effort in order to crack the gate exam, then you should go on for the coaching of gate. But if you think That you won't be able to secure a Gud rank in the exam or you won't be able to cope up with the coaching then you shouldn't go for the coaching because it is true that once you got a gap of an year, there are certain companies which do not allow the gap.

had 99 percentile in gate '12 and dropped for gate'13 but fared badly in it....called for interview via score of gate'12...dont know what to say about this year gate examination...any help please...

lets look at the eligibility criteria for GATE

candidate should be a Bachelor degree holder in Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2)/ Engineering/ Post B.Sc. / Post diploma

Master of Computer application and those who are in the final year of such programmes.

Master degree holders in any division of Science/ Statistics/ Mathematics/ Computer Applications or correspondent and those who are in the Final year or Pre-final year students are not qualified.

Thus, as per the eligibility, nothing has been mentioned about the gap. So you can go ahead.

Generally most company dont allow more than two years of gap

They allow and consider gap of two year since many people take a gap for engineering entrance exam preparation ( such as IIT) and a year gap for PG entrance exam such as GATE or CAT etc

So you need not worry. Prepare well
