See, the fact is that the syllabus of IITJEE is so big that its boundaries often get out of our minds. Morever if any chapter is included in the syllabus, then the syllabus includes each and every minute detail of the chapter. Often students study only the important highlited topics of chapters and they leave the minute ones, and if a question comes from that minute section, students think that the question was asked from outside the syllabus.

As such no such incident has been recorded in the history of IITJEE that any question is asked from outside the syllabus. But many incidents have occured where for a particular question either wrong options were given or due to incomplete information the same question gave two answers.

No there is no occurence of such an accident in the history of IITJEE . However there are multiple occasions when the questions had incorrect/multiple information regarding the same thing and which led to mutiple answers. Sometimes it has also happened that the options are incomplete/inappropriate which leads to wrong answers and circumstances.

The syllabus of IITJEE is so vast that hardly any student reads it by himself/herself. As a matter of fact questions asked from the depth of the chapters are considered to be outside of the syllabus by candidates. for example there was 1 question based on torsional pendulum in 1 year and it was regarded as outside the syllabus because most of the ISC/CBSE books had no information related to torsional pendulum.

Hence questions asked can be tough/wrong but not outside the syllabus.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
