After getting position as IAS Officer there is nothing needed to be done by you.

you need to just work sincerely and show the progress in your assigned work.

For IAS officers constant promotions is a Virtue. No need of extra efforts to get a promotion.

with experience you will get various positons in administrative services of Country/State.

DM : District Magistrate is a positon of Commissioner range.
The deputy Commissioner is the district Magistrate of the district.
He is known as administrative head of the district.

Only experience with civilians will make you into this position.

Become IAS officer is all important later on the positions done by you should be for all services to this holy mother land.

Actually you are not eligible to decide where you want to work . It all will depend on your cadre if you belong to Andhra Pradesh Cadre then you will become DM of any one of the districts in Andhra Pradesh.

In this way it is not possible to become a DM of particular region. Just you have to follow the promotions and enjoy all the benefits of Administrative Service while doing service to India.

Sir you did not tell whether just after passing IAS exam one is given the post of DM or not ....If it is not given then what is the minimum time period required ? Please answer sir ....Waiting eagerly!!!!
