Yes, it is a good choice. But to be a part of the lab technician course you must be a part of a graduation course that is related to this field. So either you should have B.Sc. honors in microbiology or biotechnology or biophysics etc. To be eligible for this course you must have deep rooted knowledge in disease diagnosis and detection performed in the laboratory. You must also have knowledge of the sterilization. You will be dealing with infectious microbes in the laboratory. So you must know the basic prerequisites when such specimens are detected or diagnosed. You will have formulate their behavior and design the curing strategies accordingly.
So if you have these qualities in you apply for a student visa in Canada. Also appear for TOEFL this year. Make sure you get high score in TOEFL so that you get the student visa in Canada.
