One of our employees at college at Airoli New Mumbai got Phd from Sikkim university in 2013.
UNIVERSITY of Mumbai did not accept it saying that it is not valid under UGC rules. why is it so ?

Actually, there are two universities in Sikkim in which students often confuse.

They are namely,

1. Sikkim Manipal University
   The Sikkim Manipal University is recognized by University Grant Commission [UGC] and Distance Education Council [DEC].
   It was founded in 1995.
   Website: http://smu.edu.in
   
2. Sikkim University
   There is no information about its recognition from UGC.
   It was founded in 2006.
   Website: http://www.cus.ac.in/

So, if you are pursuing Ph.D. then make sure that you are pursuing it from Sikkim Manipal University.
