I would first like to point out that it is not Central Intelligence Bureau Grade II Exam. The correct name of the exam is Assistant Central Intelligence Officer (ACIO). This is a post in Intelligence Bureau, one of the oldest intelligence agencies in the world.

Now what exactly does the Assistant Central Intelligence Officer does is not known for sure. There is some level of secrecy regarding every single post in Intelligence Bureau which I am sure everyone would say is fair considering the kind of work IB does.

What kind of work is done by Intelligence Bureau you may ask? Well Intelligence Bureau is India's internal intelligence agency that has given the job to track issues like Naxalism and terrorism. Interestingly very few people know that Intelligence Bureau started off as India's external agency.

It was during the days of British Raj that Intelligence Bureau was created. At that time the sole purpose of the agency was to track Russian troops movement in Afghanistan. There was a fear in England that Russia was planning an invasion in India to wipe out British Empire.

The role of Intelligence Bureau increased during the First and Second World War, after which India gained independence. After independence Intelligence Bureau came under the command of Home Ministry. However the agency suffered a lot due to British exit. A lot of secret agents and informats were lost and it was required to rebuild the entire organization. At that time Intelligence Bureau had double duty of not only looking out for external intelligence but internal issues as well.

Due to lack of resources and manpower, Intelligence Bureau failed misrebly as it could not predict the 1962 India China War. During the reign of Indira Gandhi the demand of separate intelligence agency for external intelligence grew louder that ulimately resulted in creation of R &AW.

Now the job of Intelligence Bureau is to monitor terrorist activity in India and warn the authorities about a possible terrorist attack on Indian Soil. To get job in Intelligence Bureau as Assistant Central Intelligence Officer you need to meet certain requirements:

Your Nationality should be Indian

Age Limit is 27 years for ACIO Exam.

However age limit is relaxed for SC/ST candidates.

Educational requirement is graduation course in any stream from a recognised college.
