NIT stands for National Institute of technology. It is one of the most reputed technical universities in India after IITs. There are many NITs in India providing courses like B.Tech, M.tech and MCA. After polytechnic or diploma students can take admission in regular engineering stream in direct second year through lateral entry. But i am sorry to say NIT does not provide any lateral entry for diploma students s you cannot take admission in it. However you can take lateral admission in IITs through GATE exam. But for that you really need to perform well in GATE. You can also write LEET exam. LEET stands for lateral entry entrance test. This test is taken by diploma holders to take admission in direct second year of engineering. These tests are conducted on state level. But some colleges and Universities too conduct Lateral Entry Tests. If you have scored at least 60% in your polytechnic then you are eligible to write these exams for lateral entry. So prepare well for it and give your best! All the best! |

NIT's are the government colleges which are very famous and renowned TECHNICAL institutions in our country. There are many NIT's here as compared to the number of the IIT's and all these are the government colleges. NIT- National Institute of Technology. NIT gives admission to students ONLY through AIEEE Exam. Even if you are a polytechnic or diploma holder, I would suggest that you take up your AIEEE attempt and then try to score the best in it. AIEEE - All India Engineering Entrance Examination. This is one of the top most entrances in the country which is organized and held by the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) once every year in the month of April right after the board exams are concluded. Since you are not a Class 12th pass instead a graduate, you would have to apply for this exam to take Engineering admission in any of the NIT's across the country. To APPLY, Click Here ->> The Eligibility says you should be a minimum 12th pass or diploma holder from a recognized school or university to apply for this. Physics, Chemistry and Maths are compulsory subjects. Only 3 consecutive attempts would be granted to a particular candidate. Once you appear for the exam, you have to score a rank within the top 5000 students in India because all the NIT seats are filled up within that rank. I am sorry to say that there is no other process to get admission in the NIT's however you can get lateral entries in some of the colleges but that is in vary rare cases. AIEEE is the only option. Hope this helps All the best Regards RANJEET |

Re: Procedure to take admission in NIT college?
To take admission into NIT you have to appear for entrance exam.
For entrance exam you should be 10+2 passed with physics , chemistry and mathematics or diploma in engineering for lateral entry into second year. From 2013 there will be one entrance exam for every engineering college. The exam will be called ISEET. Admission is NIT was based on AIEEE scores but from now only one entrance will be there so you have to apply for only one entrance exam. You are diploma pass hence you will get lateral entry into second year of engineering graduation. So you must be prepared for entrance exam if you want to get NIT .
