For becoming a customs officer you need to first complete your graduation. There after you need to appear for the entrance exam i.e the UPSC exam. For this exam you can start preparing right away. You can appear for the exam when you are in your final year.

First of all, you have to check their website, cbp.gov for current vacancies. They hire at the GS-5, or GS-7 level, meaning u have to have a bachelors for gs-5, gs-7 is masters or 3.0 gpa (check OPM.GOV) for more info, then take the exam, its competitive and once u register for the exam, u get study guides to help u.
