Re: Which subjects I have to select for my Graduation to become an IAS being a candidate from 12th Class with Commerce?
IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service. The exam to become IAS officer in India is Civil Service Examination which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. This exam takes place every year in two stage.
IAS officer has very important role to play for the state and central government. He/She works as eyes and ears of the government during the crisis situation like drought, violence, floods, earthquake etc. The government policy depends on the input received from the IAS officer. IAS officer also helps draft policy for the government. His job does not end their, it is also the responsibility of the IAS officer to ensure government policies are being implemented properly in his region. This means consistently traveling to places where policy is being implemented and check out the progress. Now coming to your question. It does not matter in which subjects you have completed graduation. You can do B.A., B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, BCA, B.Tech etc and still apply for the IAS exam. The requirement is graduation degree, stream does not matter. Yes you can prepare for IAS along with your graduation course. It is advised to start preparing for the IAS exam at least 6-8 months in advance. Otherwise you may end up putting too much pressure on yourself. Eligibility 1. Nationality Should be Indian. 2. Graduation degree in any stream from a recognised university in India. Age Limit The age limit is 21 to 30 years for General category candidates. The upper age is relaxed by 3 years for OBC. SC/ST gets 5 years relaxation in upper age limit. Number of Attempts General candidates get 4 attempts to clear the IAS Exam. OBC candidates have 7 attempts to do the same. There is no limit for SC/ST candidates. Exam Pattern There are two stages of IAS Exam: 1) Preliminary Exam 2) Main Exam |

I will suggest you to select that subject in which you have interest and you also have the good catching power. Any subject can become helpful when you understand it easily with the basic concepts with some examples. In the IAS exam you will also get the options to select more than one subject. So you should give your focus towards your interest and this is also not matter that you are from which background. You background can be changed while applying for the IAS exam.
