Re: Which UPSC optional subject is best for me? I have B.Com degree from DU
I believe you are referring to the Civil Service Exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. This exam is conducted for IAS, IPS and IFS recruitment.
Now the exam patten for Civil Service Exam is: 1) Preliminary Exam 2) Main Exam There is one paper on optional subject in Preliminary exam while for Main Exam, you are required to choose 2 subjects on which 4 papers would be conducted. It is very important to choose the right subject for optional subject. It is always recommended to select subjects that are related to your course. For example a commerce student can choose subjects like Commerce and Accountancy or even Mathematics. You should always avoid subjects that are not related to your stream especially the subjects that are extremely difficult. A classic example would be Engineering related subjects. It is suicidal to pick any of these subjects. Now let me tell you what a lot of candidates do. Since the preliminary exams are all about qualifying for the Main Exam, several students pick subjects like Geography or History as the optional subject in Preliminary Exam. You can also consider it. Mainly subjects related to your course are best since you will have to put less effort on them. List of Optional Subjects • Agriculture • Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science • Anthropology • Botany • Chemistry • Civil Engineering • Commerce and Accountancy • Economics • Electrical Engineering • Geography • Geology • History • Law • Management • Mathematics • Mechanical Engineering • Medical Science • Philosophy • Physics • Political Science and International Relations • Psychology • Pubic Administration • Sociology • Statistics • Zoology |
