The Bio-informatics is nothing but the Computational Biology in which you have to apply the biology in the computer (Programming) area like PERL, Java, VB etc. All you need is you must have the interest in the Biology in depth with moderate computer knowledge and also in the job scope, various companies like TCS, Wipro and CTS (Cognizant) and Accenture are often hiring the candidates for this area. Also you can opt for the Lecturer ship in any of the colleges (Science ans Engg).

yah, as all said, there are lot of options and ways... if you will be able to get even one ..ha ha ha.

there is a lot of hype about the new degrees like b.tech Bioinformatics,

but first of all i think you yourself know what is the standard of the bioinfomatics in colleges, the pepole who are holding degree in some other biological sciences are taking lectures for bioinformatics, so guess yourself, how much you will actully get from the degree.and how much your education will help you to getting a job.

and secondly.. let anybody here know me .. what comapnies and institutes are really working in bioinformatics in INDIA? It companies like IBM and others need the IT guy to whome they give the basic training in bio and who will write algo programmes for them. either to get into those big groups you need to have a P.hD degree or PDF in Bioinfo from a univeristy from UK, USA, germany, France etc. can you afford that?
