I am a student of B.Sc 1st year with Zoology honours.
I want to join Defence after my Graduation.
Kindly let me know can I apply for
CDS exam after my Graduation?

Yes, you can apply for CDS Examination being a B.Sc (Zoology) candidate. Combined Defense Service Examination is conducted by UPSC every year in the month of February and August. CDS Examination is basically conducted for giving admission into several cadres namely, Naval Academy, Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy and Officer Training Academy. As you are B.Sc (Zoology) graduate, you can apply only for Indian Military Academy and Officer Training Academy. Since you are pursuing B.Sc (Zoology) right now, I suggest you to apply for this CDS Exam when you will be in final year of B.Sc.

Educational Qualification:

>> For Indian Military Academy and Officer Training Academy (You are Eligible) : Degree of a recognized university or its equivalent

>> For Naval Academy and Air Force Academy (You are not eligible): B.Sc with Physics and Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering, and B.Sc with Physics and/ or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering respectively.

Age Criteria Required:

> Indian Military Academy - 19 to 24 years

> Officer's Training Academy - 19 to 25 years

Yes of course, you are eligible to apply for CDS examination after completing graduation. Minimum Educational Qualification to apply for this examination is that candidate should have completed a degree course. Without having degree qualification, you can't apply for this examination. But after completing degree, you are definitely eligible to apply for this examination. There is no doubt on that.

Eligibility Criteria for CDS Exam:

-> You should have completed graduate degree from a recognized university or equivalent qualification.
-> You must have attained the age of 19 years and must not have attained the age of 25 years at the time of appearing for this examination.
-> Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply for CDS examination.
-> Female candidates are eligible to apply for CDS OTA examination.
-> Final year of degree course may also apply.

The educational qualification and age limits differs from service to service in CDS examination. CDS exam is conducted for recruitment to following defence services and they are: Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officer Training Academy.

Yes, after completion of B.Sc degree, you can apply for CDS exam.

CDS stands for Combined Defence Service exam.

Eligibility criteria:-

Indian naval academy: You should have completed engineering graduation or B.Sc with physics, mathematics subjects from a recognized university.

Indian Air force academy: You should have completed engineering graduation or B.Sc with physics, mathematics from a recognized university.

Indian Military academy: You should have completed graduation in any stream from a recognized university.

Officers Training Academy: You should have completed graduation in any stream from a recognized university.

Age Criteria:-

Indian Military Academy: - 19-24 Years
Air Force Academy: - 19-23 Years
Naval Academy: - 19-22 Years
Officer's Training Academy: - 19-25 Years

Once you complete your Graduation (B.sc ) , you can apply for the CDS exam .
CDS stands for Combined defence service which is an entrance exam to join in Defence service.

The details of CDS exam are given below.

~ The candidate shouldhave completed Graduation from a Recognised university
~ The minimum age to apply for the CDS exam is 19 years .
* For Navy , maximum age limit is 22 years
* For Airforce , maximum age limit is 23 years
* For Army , maximum age limit is 24 years
* For OTA , maximum age limit is 25 years

~ The candidate shouldbe a citizen of India
~ The candidate shouldbe an Unmarried candidate


UPSC of India will conduct this exam , twice in every year.

Yes, of course, you are eligible for the Combined Defense Services examination after completion of Bachelor's degree in Science with Zoology.

Eligibility for different academies under CDS are:

~~Indian Military Academy: Bachelor' degree in any stream from a recognized university and age limit is 19-24 years.

~~Officer's Training academy: Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university with age limit 19-25 years.

~~Indian Naval academy and Indian Air Force : Bachelor's degree in engineering or science with mathematics and physics etc.

The age limit for INA is 19-22 years and for IAF is 19-23 years.

You will be eligible after completion of Graduation.
As you are Zoology graduate you will have chance only in Army under CDS i.e. IMA &OTA.
For Navy (INA) & Air force (AFA) one needs to have graduation in engineering or Physics/Maths.

Required eligibility for IMA is Graduate from any stream and age 19-24 years.Only males are eligible.

Eligibility for OTA is Graduate from any stream and age 19-25years. Both male and female eligible with Females being given first preference for OTA.
