Yes, Economics honours students can become Indian Foreign Service IFS officer only if they have Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science/Botany/ Chemistry/ Geology/ Mathematics/ Physics/ Statistics and Zoology in their graduation.

If you have any one subject from above mentioned subjects than you are totally eligible to appear in Indian Forest Science examination otherwise you are not eligible for this examination.

With the qualification of BA in Economics, you are certainly eligible to become Indian Foreign Service Officer. The recruitment examination for getting into Indian Foreign Services is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

>> The minimum qualification required is "Graduation or Bachelor's Degree" in any discipline from a recognized university or institute.

>> As BA in Economics (Honors) is a Bachelor's Degree, you can apply for this recruitment conducted by UPSC.

>> Selection of candidates will be done based on the performance in Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Interview.

>> Minimum age required is 21 years and maximum age should not exceed 30 years. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved category candidates.

To become an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Officer, you are required to qualify the Civil Services examination and the minimum education required for appearing in the same examination is a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

So, being a student of B.A. (Hons.) in Economics degree course, you are certainly eligible for becoming an IFS officer after completion of your bachelor degree course as far as the educational requirement for the same is concerned.

Further, as far as you concerned about your degree to be beneficial in your preparation for the Civil Services examination then the answer to your concern is that your degree will certainly come handy while you prepare for the General studies Indian Economy part when you prepare for the same examination. It would also help in Main examination if you opt for Economics as your optional paper.

For complete details regarding the Civil Services examination, you can refer to the link www.upsc.gov.in.
