I have completed MSW from Karnataka State Open University with a first class. Is it necessary for me to do M.Phil before pursuing PhD program? Can I do PhD from distance mode? If, yes then which are the universities offering PhD in distance mode?

There is no need to do M.Phil, if you are interested in doing Ph.D later, but make sure you get admission in a reputed university for your research program.

There are distance mode Ph.D available surely and IGNOU is the best option with many study centers across India. There are many other universities also, which offer it like DU, AMU, BHU, etc.

No, it is not necessary to do M.Phil after the completion of Masters degree course in order to do Ph.D course.

No, M.Phil course is not compulsory to do PhD course. Those candidates who have completed master's degree with at least 55% marks from any recognized university, are eligible to do PhD course in the relevant discipline.
In order to take admission to pursue PhD course, you must have to appear and qualify in UGC NET entrance examination. Admission to PhD course will be provided to the candidates strictly on the basis of their performance of in the NET entrance test.

No, it's not necessary to do M.Phil course before Ph.D in MSW from KSOU.

If you have completed Masters degree in MSW from a recognized University with above 55% marks then you are eligible for Ph.D course in MSW.
