Biology is spread across many domains out of which plant kingdom is one arena. Botany serves to understand the plants and their lives by exploring all those conditions that fall within the biologic range. Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission Combined Competitive Examination, like all other public service examinations, seeks to evaluate the level of basic knowledge found in the candidates. The syllabus of this subject, therefore, includes the basic topics like plant nutrition and its transmission process, plant metabolism, basic biological processes like photosynthesis, transpiration and cellular respiration, plant reproduction highlighting the parts of female and male flowers and cross-pollination, plant growth and movements, plant pathology, certain sections of microbiology like plant tissue culture, genetic engineering in plants, crop treatments and the like and plant and environment. Vegetative morphology takes up another bold section wherein parts of leaves, stems and roots are verbally dissected along with classifications of flowering plants.
