The Karnataka Public Service Commission is a central authority that is constituted to advise the Government and other authorities in conducting exams and recruitment for the civil services of the state. The selection for the post of state civil services is done on the basis of competitive exams, sometimes both competitive and personality tests and interview. These exams are actually for the officers and officials working in many Government departments and also for officials working in Universities, autonomous bodies, local bodies etc. the time and date for the exams are finalized by the Commission only.

How many rounds are there in the exam ?

There are basically two rounds. One is the prelims and the other is the mains. If you   get above the cut-off marks in the prelims then you qualify for the mains.

What is the syllabus like?

For the prelims of history exam the syllabus is divided into 3 parts namely section A, B and C. Section A deals with Ancient India, Section B deals with Medieval India and Section C deals with Modern India. In the mains paper of history the syllabus covers Ancient India, Medieval India, Modern India and lastly the World History.

Question paper Language

The question paper is in two languages-one is Kannada and the other English.

Question paper pattern

The mains question paper is divided into paper1 and paper2. In both the papers there are two sections-Section A and B. The paper1 Section A is about Ancient India and Section B is about Medieval India. The paper2 Section A is about Modern India and Section B is about World History. In each paper there are two compulsory questions and any three from the remaining questions taking at least one from each section. The total number of questions to be attempted is five out of around 8 questions.

Time and marks allotted

Each paper is of 3hrs of time and is a maximum of 300 marks.
