Pune University Production Engineering 4th Sem- Design of Machine Elements Papers is aimed at providing students with questions that will test their conceptual understanding of the subject. Questions can be expected from topics like standards in design, their various types and subjects, numerical and diagrams on cantilever beams, the necessity to use a factor of safety, the manner in which a cotter joint can be built from a design, designs of shafts based on torsional rigidity and so on. Most of the questions are numerical and this provides students with the opportunity to score high marks in this paper. Students may be asked to draw certain types of basic screwdrivers, determine the diameter of bolts when all the other data is given, advantages and disadvantages of welded joints over threaded joints, derivation of equations for torque, and annotation of different kinds of springs.
